Job Description

Overview:

With an aging demographic, population growth through immigration and student retention is critical in terms of investment attraction, business retention & expansion, and sustained economic growth.
The Immigration Coordinator role was created as a result of a direct need within the community to grow the population, and have a coordinated effort and point of contact for potential immigrants and international students exploring the Greater Fredericton Area with the intent to settle, work and/or open a business. This new role will act as a liaison to the various partners and stakeholders involved in the effort to increase the population in the Greater Fredericton Region. Partners include: City of Fredericton, business community, Town of Oromocto, Village of Maryland, Multicultural Association of Fredericton, Fredericton Chamber of Commerce and Provincial Population Growth Division.

Job Summary:


The Immigration Coordinator is the point of contact / link for existing and potential newcomers, and to assist the newcomer through the various stages of the immigration process by: providing support, presentations, general information/promotional tools, ongoing follow-up to requests for specific information relating to business and community living, and managing aftercare and community integration. They will act as the liaison to the many government departments, agencies, immigration consultants, business and community groups and stakeholders during the immigration process and settlement within the community.

Duties Include:

• Develop a comprehensive work-plan encompassing all outlined duties and metrics.

• Develop and deliver a strong pitch for Fredericton as the city of choice in which to live and do business. Conduct regular presentations focused on the Greater Fredericton Region, which includes topics relating to the business landscape, community & lifestyle, settlement programs and services, economic opportunities, health care, and education, along with managing any changes or additions to the presentation. This includes maximizing intercept opportunity of the Provincial Nominee Program exploratory visits.

• Manage CRM (Customer Relationship Management) database information pertaining to potential new immigrants and their interest in the Fredericton region.

• Conduct regularly scheduled follow-up, and response to all questions stemming from the Newcomers “Exploratory Visit” with respect to business and community settlement including liaising with the appropriate community partners when necessary.

• Liaison for settlement and aftercare (i.e. referring clients to support services for community integration – Multicultural Association of Fredericton). Remain abreast of immigration issues and trends.

• Create, coordinate and update business and community living information i.e. websites, pamphlets, templates, sector information or providing direction to existing materials.

• Work with the universities and community colleges and MCAF in terms of the retention of international students (proactive strategy required). Develop and conduct an ‘aftercare’ survey (administered i.e. one year later) to determine newscomers’ level of living satisfaction, and to solicit feedback on areas to be addressed.

• Participate and / or coordinate population growth missions, national or international, to attract immigration (liaising with workforce development officer) based on skill shortages.

• Liaise – as required – with immigration consultants.

• Develop and maintain metrics for an annual report to be presented to the funding partners.

• Conduct post-mortems with immigrants who choose other jurisdictions.

• Administer and facilitate the “Immigration Business Basics” workshop sessions in addition to the training sessions designed specifically for the Fredericton Chamber Business Immigration Mentorship Program.

Requirements:

• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Working knowledge of other languages and cultures is considered to be a valuable asset.

• A Business Degree or Diploma with concentration in marketing, human resources and/or a communications background or equivalent experience.

• Direct involvement in a new business start-up or expansion in the past is considered to be a valuable asset.

• A background in economic development, client account management experience and/or business coaching and counseling to be considered a valuable asset.

• General knowledge of the community and economic driving factors for the Fredericton Region.

Skills:
• Strong networking and relationship building skills.

• Organized, attention to detail, process driven, self-motivated, people-orientated.

• Computer literate with experience in database management, MS Office and MS Outlook.

• Ability to travel to local events, meetings and workshops within the Region with the possibility of national and international travel.

Note: This is a three year pilot with funding renewed on an annual basis.
