Doug Motty Named President for the Economic Developers Association of Canada
Fredericton (September 25, 2009) - It was officially announced at the annual national conference in Vancouver that Doug Motty, CEO of Enterprise Fredericton, will be named president of the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC). This is a volunteer position with a 1 year term. Mr. Motty will be the 4th president of EDAC from New Brunswick in the 41 year history of the association.
“Having the opportunity to lead such an organization is truly an honor” stated Mr Motty. “With challenging economic times, it is important for us to look towards the future and focus our efforts on sustainable economic development and education.”
EDAC is Canada’s national organization of Economic Developers. Formed in 1968, the association’s mission is to enhance the professional competence of economic development officers and ensure placement of qualified people in the field. With national memberships at approximately 840, EDAC is a hub for economic developer education.
Economic development officers who are members of EDAC have the opportunity to attend the EDAC training and achieve their Ec.D professional designation. This is typically a 3 year process comprised of in class training programs, professional development seminars, completion of three research papers on economic development related topics and successful completion of the final exam. The Ec.D. professional designation program is delivered in partnership with the University of Waterloo.
“Being a strong believer in continued education, the EDAC program is a recognized Canadian standard in the economic development world. With the competitive nature of our global economy, it is vital for economic developers to be well educated and aware of what others are doing in their field and also have the opportunity to be internationally recognized regarding EDAC standards.”
Mr Motty will remain as CEO of Enterprise Fredericton while filling the voluntary role of President of EDAC.
