Economic Development Champion Award - The City of Fredericton -

Doug Motty, Mike O'Brien and Mark Wies Each year, an individual or organization is awarded the Economic Development Champion Award for their positive contribution to economic growth in the Fredericton Region. This award is given out annually at the Community Advisory Forum hosted by Enterprise Fredericton. At their Community Advisory Forum held this week, Enterprise Fredericton recognized the City of Fredericton as the 2009 recipient of the Economic Development Champion Award.

The City of Fredericton is recognized because of its economic and community development efforts through a variety of initiatives, including:

• The Intelligent Community Form initiative – Top 7 ranking 2 years in a row
• Immigration activities
• Development projects, including
......1. Willie O’Ree Place
......2. Grant Harvey Facility
......3. New Conference Centre in downtown Fredericton

• Record construction in each of the past 5 years

The Economic Development Champion Award is acknowledgment of the commitment and role played by the City of Fredericton as an economic development leader.

“In these trying times, the importance for economic development and growth in the Fredericton region is more important than ever. ” said Mark Wies, Chair of the Enterprise Fredericton Board of Directors. “This award is a symbol of leadership for past accomplishments and future plans to positively impact our community. We truly believe that the City of Fredericton has accomplished that through its many initiatives, creating an environment conducive to sustainable economic growth, and are most deserving of this award.”

The Community Advisory Forum is a bi-annual meeting designed to showcase the work accomplished by Enterprise Fredericton for the Fredericton Region to its stakeholders and the public. The forum is focused on Enterprise Fredericton’s Community Growth Strategy, broken down into 4 pillars; Population Growth, Community of Innovation, Business Retention & Expansion, and Investment Attraction Initiatives. The next Community Advisory Forum will showcase Enterprise Fredericton’s 2009-2012 Community Growth Strategy, tentatively scheduled for the fall of 2009.
