In most organizations the high rate of absenteeism has an adverse effect on quality and quantity of production, efficiency of employees, decreased customer satisfaction, also negatively effecting performance/morale of other employees and the organization as a whole. Absenteeism has the potential to have numerous organizational impacts including operational consequences, greater financial costs to the employer, as well as a greater employee workload. Each of these impacts has the potential to cripple an organization's operational ability, and seriously undermine its efforts to stay competitive or viable.
Many organizations now recognize that short-term disability and/or sick leave costs are far more costly than long-term disability coverage. Medavie Blue Cross has developed a tracking system and case management support service that will assist employers in identifying how to respond to this trend in their workplace. By tracking attendance data, we can work pro-actively to develop short and long-term strategies to improve attendance in the workplace. While the attendance management support program provides employees with the support and resources they need, it also recognizes that employees are ultimately responsible for their attendance in the workplace. The program will educate employees on resources available to them and work with them to overcome any barriers to improve attendance.
